Using Claude Code to Build and Launch a website
I build systems that blend AI and automation to solve real-world problems
In this tutorial, I'll walk you through creating a full-fledged landing page from scratch using NextJS and Claude Code
What You'll Build
By the end of this guide, you'll have a professional landing page built with NextJS, styled and customized using Claude Code's intelligent assistance. No extensive coding knowledge required!
Prerequisites
Before we dive in, make sure you have these tools installed:
Node.js (version 14 or higher)
npm (comes with Node.js)
You can download both from nodejs.org.
Step 1: Create Your NextJS Foundation
Let's start by creating a new NextJS application. Open your terminal and run:
npx create-next-app@latest
When prompted with various configuration options, select "yes" to everything for now. Don't worry about understanding each option – we'll customize everything later with Claude Code.
The setup will create a new folder with your project. Once complete, navigate into your new website directory:
cd <your-new-website-folder>
Replace <your-new-website-folder> with the actual name you gave your project.
Step 2: Initialize Claude Code
Now comes the exciting part! Let's bring AI into our development workflow.
Launch Claude Code in your terminal:
claude code
Once Claude Code is running, initialize it in your project:
/init
This sets up Claude Code to understand your project structure and be ready to help with development tasks.
Step 3: Plan Your Website (The Smart Way)
Here's where you have multiple approaches, but I recommend this hybrid method for the best results:
Option A: Direct Claude Code Development
You can work directly within Claude Code, describing what you want and letting it build everything.
Option B: Strategic Planning (Recommended)
Open the Claude web interface in your browser
Describe your vision for the landing page in detail
Ask Claude to create a comprehensive development plan
Copy the entire plan from the web interface
Paste it into your Claude Code command line
This approach gives you the best of both worlds – Claude's web interface for detailed planning and Claude Code for precise implementation.
Step 4: Watch the Magic Happen
Once you've provided Claude Code with your plan, sit back and watch as it:
Generates your component structure
Writes clean, modern code
Implements responsive design
Adds styling and animations
Creates a professional-looking landing page
The AI handles all the technical complexity while you focus on your vision and requirements.
Step 5: Launch Your Website
After Claude Code completes the development, it's time to see your creation in action!
Run the development server
npm run dev
The terminal will display a local URL (typically http://localhost:3000). Open this link in your browser, and voilà – your new website is live!
What's Next?
Once your basic landing page is running, you can:
Ask Claude Code to add new features
Implement contact forms or integration with services
Optimize for mobile devices
Add animations and interactive elements
Deploy to production platforms like Vercel or Netlify
Tips for Success
Be Specific: The more detailed your requirements, the better Claude Code can help
Iterate Gradually: Start with core functionality, then add features
Test Frequently: Use
npm run devregularly to see your changesAsk Questions: Claude Code can explain any code it generates
Alright, let’s go and build something.
PS: I have recorded this as a video which I will edit and put it on Youtube and add the link in this article. Stay tuned:-)
